Goldstone Arnioceras Semicostatum Spath. Ammonites
(Black Ven, Charmouth/Lyme Regis, Dorset)
Item Code: 01072017/0228 (Foreshore Code)
Period: Lower Sinemurian, Jurassic (Mudstone Formation, Obtusum Zone)
Description: These are beautiful examples of Arnioceras Ammonites set in an attractive display, with classic Black Ven matrix as the background colour. The ammonites have a beautiful gold sheen to them from Pyrite being mixed with the quartz during fossilisation, this being called ‘Goldstone’, it is indicative of being part of the Mudstone Formation of Black Ven. These Goldstone pieces are increasingly hard to obtain due to the deterioration of this part of the cliff, which is extremely dangerous (fossil hunters beware!). This is highly collectable due to increasing rarity and is one of those multi-blocks that is beautiful as a display piece and will increase in value as time passes.
Dimensions: Please see photos for the dimentions of this beautiful piece of Goldstone from the world famous Black Ven site.
